The Corona outbreak had impacted the Bollywood industry in a way. The first blow to the Indian film industry from the coronavirus outbreak came on 12 March when Rohit Shetty Picturez officially announced the indefinite delay of the long-awaited cop drama Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.
Narendra Modi announcing lockdown till 14 April, has forced the producers of films to postpone the release dates to opt for the OTT platform by going digital.
I always prefer to a theatre experience over watching a movie on digital platform at home. I believe there would be many movie buffs like me waiting for the first chance to grab a seat at a theatre once it opens.
Here is my list of most 5 awaited Bollywood films post lockdown.
Sooryavanshi is an action film directed by Rohit Shetty, written by Yunus Sajawal. It is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Apoorva Mehta and Rohit Shetty. It is the 4th film from Rohit Shetty’s Police Universe and stars Akshay Kumar as the title character with Katrina Kaif in the female lead. The film also stars Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff, Abhimanyu Singh, Niharica Raizada, Sikandar Kher, Nikitin Dheer, and Vivan Bhatena, while Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh re enters as Singham and Simmba from the franchise’s previous films
Sooryavanshi was set to hit theaters on the 24th of March. However, the filmmakers along with the cast have now released an official confirmation that the project’s release date has been postponed.
83 is an Indian sports drama film directed by Kabir Khan and jointly produced jointly by Kabir Khan, Deepika Padukone,Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Phantom Films and Sajid Nadiadwala. It’s co-distributed by Reliance Entertainment, and the film stars Ranveer Singh playing the life of cricketer Kapil Dev, Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya, Sahil Khattar.
The shooting began in England on 5 June 2019. Although it was scheduled for theatrical release on 10 April 2020, the release has been postponed without notice and no official statement is still not out yet.
3. KGF: Chapter 2
K.G.F: Chapter 2 directed by Prashanth Neel, is an upcoming Indian Kannada-language period action film. The film is a sequel to superhit multilingual film K.G.F: Chapter 1 released in 2018. It stars Yash in the lead reprising his role from the prequel K.G.F: Chapter 1 and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist. Principal photography began in March 2019. The film is expected to be released on 23 October 2020 and will be dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages
The filming of Radhe by Salman Khan, directed by Prabhu Deva, is currently on hold. This film is a remake of the South Korean movie Veteran. It was officially announced on October 18 , 2019. Principal photography began in Lonavala on 1st December, 2019. Radhe was to be an Eid release but it is likely to be postponed and after many years, we could be looking at a Bhai-free festival
Jersey is a 2020 Hindi Language Sports Drama Film directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri and a remake of his 2019 Tollywood movie under the same title. Shahid Kapoor stars as a cricketer portrayed by Nani in the original version, alongside Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Kapur and an ensemble cast.
Official announcement for the film was made in October 2019 and principal photography commenced in Chandigarh on 14 December 2019. It was scheduled to be theatrically released on 28 August 2020 but has been put on hold.
*There are many more much awaited movies like Laal Singh Chaddha, etc but they are much later release late and therefore did not make it into the list.
